Throwback, Mothaflufflas, or Thinking of Drinks

Jamie=pretty ruckin' fusty at this!

Hey there, two or three people in the whole world who might think to check my blog to see if I'll ever post again and end up reading this! How y'all doin'? Are you as nervous as I am?!

I decided to try my hand at blogging again today to revisit old times and get myself writing again to maybe get myself in a good place creatively. Or, at the very least, expressively. How often is it that I mention that I'm in a creative rut? Haha, why do I feel the need at this point? It seems to be a condition of being Jamie. Let's see what I can do:

'Fridgerator glow
Casts a grimace on my face
Mountain Dew stares back.

Sip Canada Dry
What color is this liquid?
Surely not so green!

Found content, then, with
Mexican Coca-Cola--
Sugary, brown, calm.

Yesterday, I drank
A mocha latte; Just Right.
Smiled thinking of you.

Dismantle this mass of squiggles
And twirl it 'round your fingers
I will hand you forth my innards
So long you keep them safe.

I imagine a brown bottle, sun shining through
Profound translucence from so dark a color
I peer in and lose myself in a bottomless well of depth and sun
Where I will gladly make my home
Tumbling head over heels, never to gain my footing.

I'm actually pretty happy with this. I think I'm done writing for tonight/this morning; I got more out of myself than I'd expected, inchoateness notwithstanding!

I know this isn't really a blog post, per se, in that I haven't told you anything new about where my Life's at, but if you want to know about that, perhaps I'll try posting again soon!

Or you might consider checking your snail mail!

Thank y'all for humoring me! I think I'm off to bed after I finish listening to this album! (Kid A-Radiohead)

                                                                                                                     Cheers,

Neue Menschen, neue Erfahrungen--bin ich fast ein Erwachsene?

Jamie equates ambivalence regarding school tomorrow

Today, fellow folktypes, is the last day of summer vacation. Feelin' the anxiety, feelin' the woe. But definitely looking forward to being productive. Having some sort of business. Especially in German and Chorus. Hoping really hard that I'll make Select again this year (what happened to the subjects of these sentences?). Gotta practice for September! Touch up my intonation. Going noticeably sharp lately. I hope this is a sign that my ear is developing and not just that I'm becoming too lax with my voice :-\. In any case, I'll be auditioning, so I'd better tune up!

So, I will most likely be neglecting to sleep tonight, as is mostly tradition for me on the night before the first day of school. Maybe I'll write or draw something. I oughta take initiative and utilize my punch-drunk creative energy for once! I used to write and draw so much back in the dee. Which, I've come to discover, may not have been a Wednesday after all ;)

I've been enjoying the company of some Tried-and-True friends as well as a couple of new friends...who are so familiar to me somehow that they seem like Tried-and-True friends already. It's been great and for the most part stress-free hanging out. Though I wonder if I'm being silly to not pursue a certain aspect of hanging out. Am I being unreasonable to hold onto my reserve about that? There are lots of reasons floating around in my head to not just give it a shot, but I'm not sure that any of them can hold up. I do know for sure that it's quite uncomfortable being singled out for it, heh.

Haha, I just realized that I left my leather jacket and gloves at Sky and Amy's...oops! I hope we'll go to IHOP again this Friday. Hey, it's after school, right? I don't want this new aspect of my social Life to dwindle on behalf of academia. But we'll see what happens.

I've lost my steam on this blog, as it was interrupted by a less-than-impromptu voyage to the Sonic in Wilmington. I think I'll just enter a sugar coma now. Ta-ta!

Where Is My Mind?

Jamie=Rhythmically challenged in the Circadian sense...

Summer vacation is taking its toll, fellows and fellowettes...

Slept from between seven and eight AM to a little after eight PM yesterday and have been awake since. I'm waiting for eight tonight to surrender my consciousness. It is an agonizing temptation to just go and have a lie-down, but NOOO! Self restraint! I am a monkette! Otherwise known as a nun! (I am neither of the two and do not intend to pursue such aspects in this Life.)

So tomorrow I have my Senior Portrait at 3:30 at skizool, which should be fun. Planning to wear one of my favorite shirts and a new choker I just made! I hope my minute smiling eyes can withstand the unforgiving technological scrutiny of a professional camera. Oh, with a dude/dudette behind it, telling it what to see.

Just something someone said that set me off: "Just because you say it's art doesn't mean it is." You're right. And it doesn't mean it's not, either. Our tastes don't often overlap, but I wouldn't say it's my call to question their status as artists just because I don't like them. Why does amateur musical knowledge get to a person's head so quickly? Why am I getting to be like that too?

I miss Laura now that she's with her dad in Illinois, and it wasn't until very recently that there was anything/anyone at all to suggest that it's weird that Laura and I don't normally talk during the summer...like, we just don't. We don't talk on the phone much during the rest of the year except to make plans...but at least this summer we're emailing, which is awesome. How am I going to do the long-distance friendship thing in college and beyond? Will I break my habits and subsequently break collegiate tradition and actually keep in touch? :-\

And I miss Adam from the couple of times we hung out. Thanks for the CDs; I'm reallly enjoying Pixies and Regina...not as much The Vaselines, I'm sad to say. I think we'd get along really well. Openness, writing, music, humility, and curly hair FTW!

My cat threw up in Lindsay's room last night...I cleaned it in exchange for Lindsay's guarantee that she won't take Grey with her when she moves in with dad. It wasn't that bad...that's, like, the third time I've cleaned up his frowup. It's cuter when it's called frowup, isn't it? O:-)

Usually when I'm quite overtired, time just freaking flies, but right now it feels like it's hardly moving...maybe I'll go to bed at seven rather than at eight if I don't end up hanging out with Sky. Ich bin muede, sogar kaputt. Oh yeah, I finally got the books for my summer German homework today. Huzzah! Deutsch Zeit!

Okay, shalom, mothafluffas. I shall not let any more locomotives leave this senseless station for the moment.

Summer

Jamie=awake, cheery, and in severe want of a shopping spree

Today is going to be a good day. :)

Last night, I stayed over my dad's for the first time in a good while. Mostly I just hung around, watched some T.V., fooled around on the guitar, and played with the new puppy, Ben-Ben. Did not sleep much (fell asleep sometime around sunrise, prolly and woke up at about seven thirty), but I feel well-rested and happy.

It's unreal that it's already summer vacation. I'm already losing track of which day it is and going to bed at four in the morning. Hopefully this summer will last as long as last summer did. Seriously, I got a lot out of last summer, thinking and spending time with myself ;) (just kidding!) I could benefit a lot from learning how to drive and/or getting a job this time around, though. I would dig working for Ron at the Kwik Mart around the bend, but I don't think he needs help. Worth a shot to let him know that I'm around, though! If that isn't an option, I'll soon be employed by my dad to paint sign posts, which is easy and lucrative. I'd like to be useful to someone somehow.

Looking forward to my correspondence with Laura while she's in Illinois--I'm awful at staying in touch, so it's great that she wants to write me this summer, so I'll have immediate motivation to write back. I've always liked the idea of having a pen pal, and why not have a real-pal pen pal?

On a slightly more discordant note, I've been in a creative rut for approaching forever now. Although I've had some new ideas, my ability to ditch my reserve and just create and perfect later is lacking, namely in writing. I'm a good writer, and I'm holding myself back by not trying harder to get myself into it again. Maybe I should talk with Mr. Keeley. I wish I'd gotten to take Creative Writing this year at school :-\. I'm thoroughly convinced that I could get some ideas onto paper with grades and my GPA as an incentive. In any case, I'll be sure to submit to Tower again this winter.

I kind of want to skip ahead to college. I want to be in an environment where everyone around me has a genuine and in-depth interest in language like I do. I love the idea of just spouting off about linguistic stuff and having someone not only know what I'm talking about but also be able to theorize with me (fuck parallel structure, mofos! Sentience towards grammatical no-nos in text FTW.) I don't like feeling like the one goody-goody student in a class, because it makes me seem even less personable to my fellows and fellowettes than I'm already not. That is entirely my deal, though! Either way, I want to get into a good school with some serious scholarship action going on and to make new friends while keeping the old.

And I could seriously go for some new apparel in the form of underunits, pantaloneses, and socks. Who's with me?!

Better

Jamie=baffled by her perceived duration of this vacation and hopeful for developments to come

Top o' the Marnin', folktypes! Long time no speak!

I'm rather on the sleepy side and I desire waffles, but alas! Es gibt einfach keine Waffeln im Tiefkuehlschrank. Yeah, Eggo is ideal for the non-breakfast-making type.

So, I'm feeling a bit better about stuff lately, feeling that some amends have been made, feeling much more at ease!

I've finally gotten around to some long-awaited, long-neglected sorries, and I'm thinking things will transition nicely back towards something near what they used to be like. Maybe that's really wishful thinking, but hanging out with Nick the other day felt mostly like the old days. :)

I just have to stop being so serious and loosen up, because all this internal gravity is making me pedantic and oversensitive. I do not want to be that person, and I'm really not that person. I love humor too much to let introspection overtake my sense of lightheartedness. I can balance the two, as antipodal as they sometimes prove to be, and aspire to do so again.

On that note, there seems to be a volume of hanky-panky taking place on my couch and possibly in the cupola on this fine morning. HEY! I'M NOT BABYSITTING IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN, MISSY. It's really fortunate that I've never been propositioned to babysit for Lisa or Eric, the former being more likely to ask me in the first place, for geographical pragmatism. Thassokay. You don't want me to be in charge of your child.

Saw Kickass last night with Sky and got in for free, thanks to some astounding NECAP scores (actually, my math score was atrocious--yet more incentive to study for the SAT.) It was good, way more violent and gory than I'd expected! Very funny, though. But I must ask, Nicholas Cage, what the Hell are you doing in this film, dressed like Batman, and so moustachedly endowed? Hm, that's probably not a good way to word that, but I'm keeping it that way. The question remains. Think about it. I would recommend Kickass to those of you who would like bits that are briefly and vaguely reminiscent of Kill Bill. :)

Okay, I think that's it for me for now. I just wanted to post to clear the depressed mood of my previous blog.

Musing on my Relationships, Chronically Adressed Resolutions

Jamie=delving deeper into the fact that interpersonal relationships are something that she seriously struggles with.

Beyond lacking basic social etiquette and giving strange impressions, there's a more fundamental problem there, I think. I've always been more introverted than extroverted, which is fine and in and of itself is not a problem with me. I like to think that I can think independently, logic aside. My deal, though, is that my introversion has gotten to be extreme enough that I do not have the capacity for healthy, mutual relationships with other people. I tend to take emotionally and materialistically and give next to nothing back. I aspire towards balance and fairness but am too hesitant and too unsympathetic to know what that really means on my end. I don't want to give up on it; there's no reason to! I'm a very young person with a great capacity to change. I want to find my own means of treating people and treating myself, because I find a lot of social standards to be irrelevant to how I've learned that I feel about things. There are some that I find make sense, though, that I want to work on. For example, don't let a new person in your life replace the Tried and True. The new don't have to earn you, but they ought to learn you. It's not fair to step into someone's life and immediately make demands of them. People already have so much internally to work out and it doesn't tend to help either party to add onto that persistent stress. Secondly, I want to start making some of the moves, so my friends can be assured of their importance to me, their value to me. It's not that I don't care enough to be the one to make plans. It's just that, as silly as it sounds, it often doesn't occur to me to do it because I enjoy my time alone as well. When I'm not stimulated socially, most of the time I'm internally stimulated and don't actively seek company. It's nothing personal and I don't mean to make you unsure of whether I'm engaged. It's still something to work on, though. I'm not very considerate of other people, in large part due to my lack of understanding to sympathize. Sometimes I oppose, and sometimes I'm just neutral because I haven't experienced what you're going through and don't have real advice. I would rather give advice from experience or from whatever I can offer as far as an objective standpoint goes, than empty advice that doesn't help or even reassure anyone.

I've realized that I really do have a hard time with superficial social matters. I would rather not put myself forth if I don't personally believe in my standpoint, which can also make me unsupportive. I don't think feigning an opinion is convincing when I do it, so I try to abstain from doing so whenever possible. Still could improve there, too, though.

I don't want people to feel obligated towards me when I'm figuring things out for myself, because I tend to close people out when I am doing so and may very well come to conclusions that are not kindly met by the people close to me. I don't want to push people away from me, but I don't want to pull them in if I can't even be sure that I can cater to them emotionally as I solidify my beliefs. The problem with all that is that I simply can't expect my friends to detach that way if they haven't already found a reason that would cause them to. The way I look at self discipline and responsibility does not tend to work for other people, which is understandable. It's a way of approaching things that can lead to taking on inordinate amounts of (hypothetical) responsibility, but also to being selfish. I don't ask that people bend to accommodate that, because it encompasses the idea of catering to one's own beliefs and not necessarily to others, but at least it can be known. It is y'all's choice as to how you would/will go about that.

Apology, Explanation, Reflection, Request, Personal Quest

I feel a strong urge to write a blog tonight.

I just got home from a Guitar Hero-playing, homework-doing excursion at Shea, Cheyenne, and Gail's place. I'm glad to have gotten to spend time with Shea and Cheyenne (Gail was at work) and play Guitar Hero and to have at least started some homework.

However, I am very upset and very torn about something that came up regarding a poem I wrote about a once close, now very distant friend. What I wrote in the poem was anything but nice and was in fact scornful and accusing. I wrote it out of anger, but also out of honesty for how I've been feeling. I feel badly that my friend found this poem without warning, and although I did not write it with any particular intent for him to see it, I would not have put it on a website had I wanted it to be private. That is to say, I didn't intend for him not to see it, either. I am glad that he read it, because at least he knows how I feel, but I realize that it's a problem that I cannot go to him and just say it to him and give him some chance at defense. I attacked him and put my attack on display, which is cowardly. I wanted to vent, just as I vented about another person publicly but without naming names, and a bit of a while after the fact. I can't justify, really, trying to pass it off as just poetry--it doesn't belong on Fictionpress of all public places. I will not remove, it, though, because now that I've mentioned it here, it's everyone's business to read what I'm talking about and be angry with me for what I said and the way I said it if they so wish. If they know my Fictionpress. To advertise my Fictionpress in this situation would make it seem that I am advertising my kinder words to win people over, which is not the point. So, if you know it already, go ahead. If not, you won't find it here.

Although I often feel very obligated towards people and would sometimes rather serve their interests before mine to avoid unnecessary conflict, I often wish to ask that people step back and give me my space to learn for myself. I hate to be obstinate while asking others to open up, but I would rather learn my lessons from my own experiences rather than take someone else's word for it. It doesn't make me an idiot for not listening in the first place even if what you say turns out to be true. It may seem like a waste of time, but I do not understand until I understand and am better off that way. I don't ask you to stand by me in that. Even if I were to feel hurt or unsupported in a situation where I was testing the waters for myself and my friends or family separated themselves from it, I would rather know, in the end, that I learned what I needed to for myself. I could just as easily be pleasantly surprised as unpleasantly surprised in what I learn, and to an extent, I am willing to find out which it will be the hard way.

The Usual and Not-So-Usual

Jamie equates a mess of large, two-toned hair, anxious about school tomorrow, and seeking help for my dad.

So, summer is packing its bags, but never for good. Just for fall, winter and spring. It's finally getting chilly in the house, which means I am finally dressing appropriately for the season. I am not anxiously awaiting winter, but I'm looking forward to fall, which means October, which means Halloween and many a friends' birthday. Oh, and my birthday. September, though, means STRESS and possibly disappointment, as I will be auditioning for Select Choir. I've been practicing rhythm and sight-reading a lot, but I haven't been paying attention to solfege hardly at all, which is unwise. I still have a little time, probably, though. Well, I hope so. I've improved so much and I really want to be a part of that group.

In other news, I need a little help from you guys, or anyone you know who can help and is willing: my dad is having a wicked tough time with his treatment and everything, and work is crap for him right now, and he's asking Lindsay and I to do some fundraising for him. I know that's a little weird, but I don't want to let him down. If anyone can donate any money to us at all, it would be greatly appreciated. I realize that this is a sucky time for a lot of people, but again, any help at all. This is aimed mostly at people I actually know. If you can help or know anyone who can, email me. Here's to sounding cheesy and feeling uneasy.

(Unintended, not-so-rhythmic rhyme.)

In other news, I've been working a little bit on Carly's story, finally. I have proof on Fictionpress. I have proof of a few things on Fictionpress, actually. Check it out. I would link you to my noteflight as well, but everything I'm working on right now is private because it's not finished, so...I should prolly get rid of that link on my Fictionpress.

In even more other news, I'm freaking hungry like a mofo. All we have to eat is fruit flies and, like, frozen yogurt, the latter of which is quite tasty and good for me...the former smells like rot and overpopulation. One of my least favorite parts of summer is bugs. I don't kill the ones I encounter if I can help it, though. Most people complain that "bugs don't belong in the house," but it's sorta the other way around: our houses don't belong in Nature. We are the intruders, and the fact that we punish the smaller life forms out there for our topsy-turvy thinking is frustrating to me. I get the heebie-jeebies from bugs, too, but a simple solution is BRING THEM OUTSIDE. Suck it up as best you can and find a way to release them.

And with that, I am out. Hope my and all of your schedules are fixed, fellow Pinkertonians!

Jamie=feeling as though she were living an infinite PMS

But the better part of PMS, which, for me, includes bonkerish quantities of creative energy.

I want to get on a potter's wheel, I want to draw, I want to compose a song, I want to play the Cello, I want to write a novel, I want to write a play...I want to do everything! Plus, I want to be productive and get something done...Maybe I'll clean my room...maybe I'll start an exercise regimen, maybe I'll sit at the piano and learn a song all the way through.

God, I need to get something done!

I've been trying to figure out what I want to go to college for in upcoming years, and I'm entirely overwhelmed. I know that I'm just entering Junior year at school, but I don't want it all to sneak up on me and explode in my face when I haven't made up my mind on what to do. There are so many areas that interest me, and fortunately, most of them fall under the category of Fine or Liberal Arts. These are the things I want to study in college:

Music: Cell0, voice
Visual Art: Ceramics, photography
Literature: Creative writing, play writing
Language: German, Russian, Japanese
Films: Acting, screenwriting, directing

I am going bonkers. Absolutely bonkers, all cooped up in the house and not seeing anyone. Playing a lot of video games and not enough piano, and no Cello whatsoever until I get a farking job. The Sans is gone and I've only just really started sight reading to practice for Select Choir auditions this year. Ahhh!

Is anyone out there seeking a vocalist for a band--any genre of band, except for one that would require me to scream or rap, given I cannot do either? I have a classical-sounding voice but am trying new sounds and would like to work with someone. I seriously need to get started on something musical and follow through with it. I love to harmonize and would be delighted to work with either female or male voices and any combination thereof. Let me know!

I need to go outside more.

Oy!

Jamie=sore and aggravated

Oy.

I can't imagine being as intrusive as so many of the people I observe on a day-to-day basis are. I can't imagine feeling the urge to try to control what another person does. I can hardly fathom throwing such a fit about everything that makes me angry, because even I get pissed off at tiny little things all the time--but it doesn't show, really, does it?

I admire those people who can stand up for what they feel is right unabashedly. They have transcended the sort of cowardice that I feel and think behind. But I don't need to make all my problems everyone else's (I suppose I am doing so, though, in writing this blog). It's almost strange how little it seems to take to set people off externally. People make a lot of things problematic for themselves. I'm fortunate to be laid-back, though I realize that said laid-backness may sometimes come off as a lack of feeling or concern. Honestly, there are some things that just don't matter enough to me for me to throw a hissy fit.

Of course, here, I am ranting, therefore I am making my reactions external. Truthfully, a lot of things make me angry or at least irritated, and it is these things here that I am mentioning that frustrate me and stress me out. There is a conundrum, naturally, and I think it is clearly delineated here: I try to deal with most of my nonsense myself, internally, but it is not in my nature to keep it all to myself, so in the end it is made known, even if I am not shoving it down everyone's throat by throwing a fit or arguing all the time. Your way is not my way, and that does not make either of us wrong or right. I understand, even, the principle behind your way, I think. I just do not apply it to myself.

I'm sorry for denouncing you. I'm tired and irritated because I want to be left alone about some things, because it's being made into a big deal, first by my doing it, then your reacting, then my reacting to your reacting. It's a vicious cycle, and I know I'm not helping. I don't want to feel attacked. For most people, I keep quiet, because it is not my place to tell you what to do. The person I should be concerned with controlling is myself. You see?

I've learned things about certain people that I don't really want to know, because they make me jump at the opportunity to be annoyed about stupid petty things, and I don't like to face things that way. I don't like it to be done to me or to anyone else, either. It is good to see in clearer vision the things that I could have and probably have overlooked, though. I've come to understand some things about myself that I have to overcome and some to accept.

I don't even know if this blog makes sense to anyone but me. It's almost four in the morning and I am so tired. Plus, it smells ueber gnarly in here. I think I need to go to bed. And procure some cheer with which to blog next time. I had a big Blog fanbase on Myspace...hmm...I hope to acquire this on Blogger and on Facebook as well.

Sorry to be so negative in this blog. I've become less tolerant about a lot of things and far more so about others in the recent past. Permanence Prevents Progression.

Naughty night/morning, all!

~Jamie

I watched all your pins drop and I didn't hear a thing.

Jamie=checkered blue button-down beclad and diggin'.

Everything that's been waiting to happen seems to be happening now.

*Confronting mum about her drinking
*Keith getting out
*My potentially playing and singing with Keith in Portsmouth as sorta a summer job
*Dad's finally admitting to being sick and soon starting treatment
*My puking for the first time in years (minor, but notable enough to me)
*My realization of something that's been lurking about for a while and is now rearing its head (Haha, I will elaborate for select few)
*Cheyenne's graduation from Hesser
*School finally almost getting out
*Falling asleep in school. CONSTANTLY.
*I feel like I'm leaving out something really significant :-\

It's really strange to me that everything chose now, I guess. I dunno, I just want to talk about it, but I don't want to be all whiny and complainy and emo. It's like...I want to tell people all this stuff, but for once I'm holding back. Don't ask, generally, don't tell. Except for here, haha.

Waiting for some thunderstorms; there's been plenty of rain so far this summer :-\.

On the bright side, soon I'll be staying up and sleeping in every day and finally letting the larynx get some recognition from people who don't know me. Does that make me a whore? ;) Earning up for a cello and college that way, hopefully. And by the looks of things regarding dad's treatment, we won't be going to Florida this summer, which is just fine by me. I'm looking forward to just staying home.

I had my last tape test of the year today, and I finished pretty early, which is unlike me. I feel pretty confident about it. I've aced all my others so far this year :). Also, I got a 100% on my Chorus competency, which I don't entirely get, because I think I tend to sing too loudly and with too heavy of a timbre to match the other singers in my section. The competency was for Blend and Balance...hmm. I always luck out.

Also, our concert last Wednesday went really well! And Mr. Quigley and Mrs. Clark's folks did an awesome job. They put on such a show; I wish y'all'd been there. Now that is a contraction if ever I did see or type one.

Mm, yees.

Ugh.

Jamie=kinda fed up with feeling obligated to listen and prove herself

Because I'm not proving a damned thing, nor should I always have to.

I just feel like lately, people are trying to control me waaayyy too much and they're really not listening to what I have to say. I feel like my choices have to be theirs or else everyone's angry at me.

I'm feeling animosity towards people I love dearly; it's become exhausting and disappointing being around them, and I feel betrayed. I put myself in a position where I felt it necessary to lie bold-faced and break promises because I realized that they were not made for me in any sense. I promised to appease other people and thought that maybe I could follow through.

So.

I will not make promises that I'm not assured that I can keep. I need to think things through before I know a damned thing. I will hurt people if I am made to make decisions or promises before their prime. It was foolish of me to do it in the first place. I fucked a lot of people over that way.

That being said:

Do not ask me to promise you anything right away. Ever. I am not a rash person, but I rushed myself and made myself into one. Crash and burn. I am upset by what people were asking of me. I'm tempted to believe that it is better for you to wait for me to make even a simple decision than for me to say I'll do something and then do something else.

Be patient. Not just with me, though.

My convictions have been very much tried all along the way, and I can't blame anyone but myself for my actions. I am no villain, however. I just need to act for myself, okay? You all are allowed that privilege.

All right, all right, I'm making it sound like I'm a slave or something. I know that I'm not. I know that I am the only one who can put myself at someone else's mercy. I have a lot to learn, still.

I need some space from people who try to influence me so much. I love you for you. I don't want you to change...

Well, that's about it for this blog. Sorry for the rant. No I'm not. I needed to get this off my chest.

I enjoy talking without anything to say : )

Blogblogblogblog...

BLOGBLOGBLOGBLOG!

(To the tune of Beethoven's Fifth ;))

Hello, my lovely fellow folktypes.

You haven't as of yet gotten to know me. (Unless you have). Either way, all the things I want to talk about in this blog are moot. If you don't know me, it's just too much that you don't know the background of. If you do know me well, then you know all about it and there's no point.

I'm a stupid little teenager. But it's so...oh, ass.

But in actual news...happy Spring, all! It's rainy in Jamieville, as well as Derry, my place of residence and Home until I head off to college. I love when it rains. :) And I really don't want to wait for thunderstorms.

I've started drawing a bit again lately. Soon as I have access to a scanner or webcam, I'll prove it on Deviantart. In the meantime, critique my work, yeah? Also, for much more blog action, check out my Myspace.

Also, I have a concert in two days. I'm not sure that Wednesday is a good day for concerts, but...that's okay. I just don't think we're ready to perform yet...*grimace*

Ah well, I think that's all I have for now. Just thought I'd waste some webspace. :)

The Bogey Man

The Bogey Man

The Bogey Man is realer than you think.

As children, at the first mention of this elusive man’s name, instilled in us is a primordial twinge of fear. Before we understand the prank our tired, work-worn parents are trying to play on our gullible minds as they narrate this man’s gruesome adventures to us, we go to bed every night terrified of the man living under the bed or in the closet. Our widened eyes and tiny trembling bodies are then under his control. Most of us will swear we have seen his menacing eyes glowing out of a corner, or felt a gnarled claw tickle our cheek as we try in vain to sleep. Some of us will move on, and these are luckiest. The rest, like me, will never forget the man that wanted to eat us as children and all that he stood for.

Darkness comes from a deep place. I suppose this place must vary from person to person, as well as its depth. Some recognize in themselves a Light towards which they may move away from this Darkness that can be overwhelming, that may threaten to swallow you whole. When this Darkness takes origin at the very pit of your physical being, and quite literally shows itself as wanting to swallow you whole, there is nowhere, really, to go when you search for an Inner Light. You are enveloped in Dark. No, you are the very vessel that contains the Dark that you’re trying to get away from.

I splash my face with freezing cold water from the shiny silver faucet of the upstairs bathroom sink. My skin constricts and stings with the cold. I look up at myself in the mirror. I am pale. My slanted, brown-almost-black eyes look back at me, and they do not smile. My similarly dark eyebrows hang above them on a low ridge, then slope down to my slightly widened Japanese nose. My shiny, long black hair falls around my face, sweeping my cheekbones that are wide and lay high near my eyes. Down, and there is my mouth, somewhat full but drawn, wide pink lips; a crack on an otherwise pretty face.

I open my mouth, two rows of perfect white teeth, a tongue, the uvula hanging down; a stalactite marking the entrance to a tunnel that goes deep down inside me. A gurgling sound comes from my throat, up from my stomach, bringing with it a deathly stink. I quickly shut my mouth again. I cannot let It escape. It wants out, or else It wants me to go down with It. It is hungry, wants to swallow me up. My eyes are round on my face. It is time to go downstairs. Breakfast almost always quiets It, at least until lunch time.

I walk into the sterile-white kitchen; fresh coffee is brewing on the counter, but I won’t drink it. The smell makes my stomach churn and I know I have to eat soon. I walk past the coffee pot over to the refrigerator. I open up the white door and look in. The food that meets my eyes brings me comfort. The milk, cheese, vegetables, fruits and jellies are colorful in their places. They take up just short of all the room in the refrigerator. I have to feed It, cannot neglect Its hunger, so I feed It these things so that It won’t eat me. Never do I feed It meat. Its first taste would only lead to lust for another and another until finally It would simply swallow me whole.

I pull out a gallon of milk and a half-empty jar of orange marmalade and close shut the door of the refrigerator. I scoop up a bag of sliced wheat bread sitting on the black-tiled white counter next to the refrigerator. I pull two slices of bread out of the bag. It growls again; It is becoming impatient.

I throw the bread right onto the counter. There isn’t enough time to bother with a plate. It needs to be fed soon. A little drawer in the cabinet next to me holds an arrangement of shiny silver forks, knives, and spoons. I open this and take out a butter knife, then quickly scoop and spread marmalade onto my bread. I reach up overhead into a cupboard with crystalline-looking glasses and pull out a tall glass. Milk is filling. Quickly I pour milk into the glass and take a huge swallow. I take a bite of my bread, chew quickly. Before swallowing, I take another bite and alternate chewing and swallowing my milk. Soon I have finished my breakfast. It is seven o’clock, and in five and a half hours I will eat lunch, and It will be pleased, It will be quiet.

Hector, or Hec as he likes me and my younger brother, Daichi, to call him, walks into the kitchen. He looks at me, smiles brilliantly white teeth, clear blue eyes marked with crow’s feet, and full lips at me, and walks over to the coffee pot, taking long, smooth strides. His long blonde hair moves back away from his face as he walks. His forty-four years are well-disguised—he hardly looks older than thirty-four, the way the Bogey Man looks when he’s trying to coax little girls to kiss him so he may swallow them whole.

“Good morning, Katsumi,” he says, grinning sharp teeth at me again. Daichi walks in, looks my way, and says nothing, but his eyes, veiled by the bangs of his long dark hair, know and have known. He walks to the table and carefully slides into a white chair. Hec sips his coffee at the counter. My stomach shifts. The smell of Hec’s coffee awakens It. I run towards the hall and up the stairs, and I know that Hec watches and leers at me as I go. Daichi will eat his toast without a word, but he will know.

In my room, I close my door and snatch up a pair of scissors from atop my nightstand. These I quickly jam between the doorframe and the door, a makeshift lock. It tries to force an animal scream up and out of me, but I bite my lips hard and hold It in. My throat wants to burst, but I cannot let It win. I swallow and swallow and swallow and finally It stops. I climb into my bed, move myself under the covers, and curl up, shivering, like I did ten years ago after the Bogey Man tried to eat me.

Hec had seemed like the perfect father—young, handsome, and doting on Daichi, who was six at the time, and I, who was eight. I didn’t understand why he didn’t have a wife or girlfriend at the time, and I asked him one day why.

“Well, Katsumi, that’s because I have two beautiful little children to love and take care of. I couldn’t share you two with anyone else,” he had said, stroking my hair, and making a face that to me looked like the face that a normal, loving father makes when he looks at his little adopted child. I felt special when he looked at me that way. Later I would realize that he made this face only to me when we were alone, never with Daichi. But I was special to Hec.

One brutally hot July night, I would lay awake in my orchid-colored room, sweating under the covers. I would look at the little purple alarm clock next to my bed, and it would read eleven twenty-six, and it would be a Thursday. The lamp next to my bed would be turned off, and the only light would be coming from the hallway through the door and it would be golden. I would be whimpering, eyes pink-rimmed as I cried. I would not sleep on top of the covers, because I knew the Bogey Man could get me that way. I would stay underneath, my blood would boil.

At eleven twenty-eight, I would hear Hec walking up the stairs, fump, fump, fump as his feet met the plush white carpet. He would walk up the hall towards my room, and stop in the doorway so all I would be able to see was his tall, black silhouette.

“What’s wrong, Katsumi?” he would ask me from the doorway. His voice would sound deep and comforting. He would walk over to my bed and sit down next to me. Eleven twenty-nine. He would reach across my small body to switch on the lamp on my nightstand. The light radiating from it would light only his face and his white button-down shirt that he wore for his work in an office across town. He would move closer, and I would sit up to cry into his shirt. He would rub my back up and down and in circles, and I would feel better. I would take no notice of the fact that he did not know what was wrong, nor did he ask again.

At eleven thirty-four, he would touch his hand to the underside of my jaw and gently move my face to look up into his. He would stroke my cheek. His blue eyes would hold a strange look, a look that was not affectionate, a look that wanted something, that way hungry. His bright blue eyes would flash, and there would be dark shadows underneath them. He would open his mouth slightly and start to move towards my mouth. I would smell stale coffee on his breath and at this point I would realize that I had been tricked, that It had gotten me. Our lips would meet, and It would kiss me, and I would be scared, but It would stop after a few moments, and nothing more would happen. It would look at me, the familiar affectionate look back on Its face, and it would slowly stand up.

“Good night, Katsumi,” It would say, then switch off my lamp and walk out of my room. It would walk down the hall, past Daichi’s room, and I would be relieved that It did not get him too. Daichi would walk into my room and sit with me for a while. I would shiver though I was sweating and my stomach would shift and growl the whole while. Daichi would leave after he thought I was asleep. I would stay awake until around midnight with the fump fump fump of Hec’s footsteps ringing in my ears long after he had made his way downstairs, back to a late night of work in his office.

School, Ass, Panthers, and Ovaries

So it's early enough that I should be waking up, but instead I'm still awake and that is bad. School starts on the twenty-seventh (a Wednesday) and I have now officially screwed myself over in staying up. But I then again, I guess it doesn't really matter, since I don't sleep right during the school year anyway.

I'm really hoping I have cool teachers again this year, and that my schedule doesn't require that I run (well, powerwalk, anyway) across campus all day. That sucked. I went from English to German to Chorus to American Government to Science to Drawing to Lunch and then finally to Algebra. Up until Drawing? ASS.

NINE YARDS OF ASS.

I really hope I can bump up to A Algebra by Junior year so I can take the Science stuff I want to. And then for Senior year I won't take a math. Couldn't happen soon enough.

Oh, and also I think there's, like, a pissed off panther or something in my chimney, because whenever I'm in the music room, I hear something sorta growling from in there. It's really bizarre!

And...

I'm going to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 tonight around sevenish. That should be interesting and estrogen-filled.

Oh, women.

I talk about how much women annoy me all the time, and sometimes I feel like an ass for it, not only because I have ovaries, but also because I'm so cruel about ridiculing them. Ahh, well...

Which reminds me, I might be a guy for Halloween this year. Gotta put on a convincing act, which should prove fairly easy. If nothing else, the look will be no problemo.

(Dude.)

And...that's it.

Blog Nummer Eins!

Okay.

So there is never enough to say anymore when I blog, and it shall be made even worse here at Blogger as I will probably have to write two separate blogs now...considering I already have a completely irregular blog flow on Myspace, although there they are at least well-received. It could be, though, that I will cheat a little and copy my blogs from here and put them on Myspace and vice versa.

But anyways.

So here I am at very early o'clock AM-time, having woken up not more than a half hour ago. Isn't that something. What stimulus could possibly have compelled my peacefully slumbering mind to wake up at seven twenty in the morning? Well, I can't say I rightfully know and I don't imagine that you do, so I guess we'll all just have to wonder. Or we could forget it, because we have better things to do than overthink simple concepts, don't we?

Oh, maybe not.

So, I'm just starting to think about school again. We have about a month until the first day, my fellow PA folktypes. I'm really hoping I don't have any sucky teachers, and that my classes aren't all the way across campus from each other like last year. That sucked. But at least I got some exercise.

I'm recycling some of my stuff from last year, like my sneakers, which can take some more wearage, as well as my blue accordion, which is cracked and no longer has the elastic that keeps it closed, but there is always duct tape for school-supply boo-boos, and elastic is easily replaceable or ignored. It's not entirely necessary. Also, I think I have more paper in my five-subject notebook. Score!

Oh my, I've just written a paragraph about reusing stuff for school.

Well, if you haven't fallen asleep or shot your own brain out yet, congratulations, as you have accomplished something. Unless you had meant to make a point of falling asleep or blowing your brains out while reading my first Blogger blog, in which case it is very possible that you should rethink your goals in life.

All reet, well, I think that is it for me.
